Message: 1st.off,sure I'm glad I found this site !
Hoping someone can help me here.
Have a 03 Dak.quad cab,4x4 w/tow pac.Sharp truck, just runs and shifts like s---! been to the dealer ( 2 diff.places ) and they tell me that all of the perimeters are in line w/the factory specs. When pulling my 20ft.bassboat ( fiberglass ) it falls on it's face. When driving just the truck,it seems to spit an spudder.
It shifts really hard and when you give it gas it goes from 1500 rpms in over-drive to 3500 in what seems to be 2nd.gear, I think !
They tell me it has 355 gears and it should have been ordered w 410s and a v8.( was shone in black and white the pack.I have would do the job .
All I want is it to shift right and run the way it should,or is this too much to ask for with this package.
When towing, I don't use the over-drive and it turns about 2200rpms around 55 mph w/ no power what so ever to spare.
Any help would be greatly appreciated !
Thanks, Stan

Message: I dont know about the power problem, but check your TV cable. It is the cable that runs from your TB to the tranny. Touch the cable at the TB, it shouldnt have too much movement but also shouldnt be too tight (hard to explain). That may have something to do with the shifting problem.

Message: dude, that's a very heavy truck for a 3.9. i know, i have an'00 QC 4x2, 3.9 but i've got a 5spd manual. i've never towed but have loaded it down with about 1,000 lbs and it did ok. make sure it's in good tune. you could do a few things like a CAI, V8 TB, headers, exhaust and a couple other things (search this site for some info & options). but, to me you have 2 options:
#1- get the 4.10 gears. to have it done would probably be about a grand.(most cost effective)
#2- trade it for a v8

Message: If it's spitting and sputtering, something isn't right. If you adjust the TV cable, from the sound of things, you're only gonna be able to soften things up, which will only make it seem weaker, since this will make it upshift sooner, downshift later, and the shifts will be softer. This is fine when the engine is running right, but not when off peak performance. Needs a good once-over to see what's causing it to miss as described. Might just need a good tune-up. That said, daddio is right to point out that it's a heifer in the weight dept. Now just imagine how porky the pre-Magnum V6's were!
