Message: I would start by checking your battery then check your plugs, plug wires, cap and rotor, then also check you fuel filter, also it's proven that the throttle body spacer does nothing really for the dakotas, but if all else fails change out the jet chip and put the original back in and see if there is any difference.
My truck looks like it was in a knife fight, and lost! http://www.cardomain.com/ride/1275365

Message: definitely load test battery first. then clean the TB/IAC. then reset PCM. do the free/cheap stuff first before you start throwing money at it.

Message: Thanks for the tips but that requires a lot of messing around and a lot of money to replace parts that might not be broken.
Does any one have a order you think i should go throught to find the problem.
Would it be worth going to a shop, or will theyt just guess and check too.
Thanks-NICK

Message: load testing the battery is free at any auto zone. you can clean the TB/IAC yourself for a $5 can of cleaner and a $20 haynes manual. reset the pcm is free. that's not a lot of money or time.

Message: One way to find vacuum leaks is to take a propane torch, remove the tip and slid a piece of vacuum hose on the tube. With the engine at idle, crack the valve so there is only a small amount of propane and run the hose around the connections and lines. If there is a leak, the idle speed will change almost instantly. Don't worry, the amount of propane your using small and you won't blow yourself up.
This may help also...
