Subject: TB after install Question IP: Logged
Message: Installed a F&B 48mm TB and after a rough time starting it, I went for a drive. Got a mile from home and it was bucking and sputtering and finally quit. Called the tow truck but while waiting had my wife go buy a new IAC. Installed that and finally got it home though it was touch and go. Seems to start now and sputters a little then smooths out. I'll see if it runs better tonight. Anyone have this problem? Hope it's just the break in period for the computer to learn the TB.

Message: you shouldn't have any problems like that. reset the pcm then start it without touching the gas pedal and no accessories on (e.g. a/c). let it idle for a couple of minutes. turn it off and restart. this should get the pcm to relearn the idle.

Message: Swapping TB's shouldn't cause any problems at all. A TB is less complicated than your kitchen faucet. Recheck the install and all the connections.

Message: Install was fine I found my MSD positive battery connection was loose. TB working fine. Thanks for the help, made me look at the problem more objectively. I was too focused on the TB install.

Message: Ah, the MSD. That brings up a funny situation that I ran into last weekend when I went to install an MSD. I was looking for a place to ground it and started to loosen a nut that was grounding something else. The nut wasn't moving very easy and decide to ground it somewhere else but didn't retighten the nut.
Finished the MSD with no problem took it out for a ride and on the way back I put on the right signal and the windshield wipers came on. I thought what the heck I must have bumped the wiper button at the same time and thought nothing of it until the next day. Then the same thing happened and I knew there was a problem and went back to the area on the right side where I was working on the MSD. It didn't take long to realize what I had done.
Of course not all went well. I tried to retighten the nut, it twisted off and I had to find another spot to ground those wires as well.
I guess if there is any moral to that story it goes the point I have made so often, especially concerning TB installs, don't blame the product, go back and revisit everything you touched and you will most likely find the real problem.

Message: You're absolutely right, without this board and your help I would have blamed the product because the install was simple and went smoothly. If you can get over the frustration of the problem and logically think things through you usually can figure it out. Thanks again.
