Message: just replace the whole distributor...they arent extremely expensive and your bushing is probably bad anyway.

Message: Do a search on the distributor gear or distributor bushing and see what you find. I understand that there is a special tool that is required, but I don't think you need that tool if you are repolacing the whole distributor. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Message: Ok so I took the distributor out completely and checked around. The gear seems to be ok from what I can see. I am not ruling it out because it got dark. How do you remove the gear and bushing?
When I got everything back together it ran worse. I had the distributor a little off so I guess the timing was off. I kept hearing a loud sucking sound coming from the intake. It was the IAC. Well before I read about how to clean the thing I had it out and taken apart. Now it will not run at all. Can you fix the IAC if it was apart? Oh when I covered the IAC hole the best I could the idle smoothed out. I will get some carby cleaner and try to get it running again. Do you think this thing will not crank if the IAC was messed up by taking it out and apart. It was alot of crud in there so I think I might be close.
Keep you ideas coming as I could use them.

Message: The timing is controlled by the Pcm so as long as you dont have it out a tooth it should run

Message: Ok back again with more info. I put in a new IAC, changed plugs (really fouled looking on all 6), I got the thing running again but barely. It took a while for the IAC to get adjusted but the plunger is finally in the hole right. It will not tach above 3000 and you really have to work to get it to go that high. It pops, spit, farts, will not take gas, back firing through both the intake and exhaust.?????????????????????????
So there is no way to adjust the timing on this truck?
