Subject: Radiator repair?
IP: Logged

Message:
I got a 93 dak 3.9 and my radiator has a really fine hairline crack near the neck where it runs into the radiator hose. I just replaced the water pump and some other junk, and am about broke till payday. I was wondering if I could slap some JB Weld or some thing like that on there. Any ideas would be greatly appriciated. Thanks!

You can drain some of ur fluid out and soldier it if its an old brass radiator.

If its aluminum i heard they have a type of soldier for that but i havent been able to track it down

Other then then screw it an glue it and hope for the best until u get some money.

They sell a radiator repair kit in most auto parts centers for about 6 bucks. It's called permatex radiator repair kit.(It's like quick solder or JB weld) What Just Looking is talking about is called HTS-2000 from New Technologies Inc. It is Aluminum alloy solder. You can buy it at most welding supply depots, I can tell you from experience that the rod (they are about 18 in long) is DEFINITELY worth the money IF you know how to braze. It comes in 1, 5, and 10 pound containers. I bought a 1 lb(about 35 rods) box a few months ago, and it cost about $100, but I hear they have a special online for 50% off(that is normally my luck!)

Hey I also have a 93 dakota 3.9 i got a hairline crack in my radiator oddly enough it was a month or so after repaleing my water pump, But anyway i debated about replaceing the radiator but I decided to go the cheap route and I JB welded the crack back togetger it held up fine for a few days with no leaks but the radiator was so gummed up with calcium I ended up replaceing it about a week later.
