Subject: Exhaust leak IP: Logged
Message: I have a 98 Dak 3.9L with new cat and Flowmaster muffler. The rest of the exhaust is stock. Over the last year the Y pipe coming from my manifolds has broken (sheared clean across) in multiple locations. Once right below the flange from manifold on the passenger side, once just before the cat. Has anyone else had a problem like this, or have any thoughts on the issue?

Message: my original pipe has been great never had a problem though i have put in a new high flow cat and flowmaster muffler. but i would suggest looking at the condition of your motor mounts and exhaust hanger, i would say the reason it breaks is it cannot take the constant stresses.

Message: Mine did the same thing when i put on my hi-flow cat and flowmaster(and in the past it sheared at the cat). The flanges were shot anyway(looking at the flanges made me realize that it was kind of a piss poor design), but my torqueing on the cat was the straw that broke the camels back. I enden up having to replace it. Just don't get the dealer y-pipe...it was $400. I had my buddy make me one out of stainless.
