Subject: How to repair that gouge??
IP: Logged

Message:
Just this past summer, somebody somehow left a huge gouge underneath the back passenger side of my bumper. now as all you Sport owners know, the back and front valances of the bumpers on the Sports are molded plastic and are part of the bumper. is there anyway to fix this gouge (about 1cm deep x 4in long) without replacing the entire back bumper? assistance would be GREATLY appreciated.

im taking a guess here, but what about modeling putty? (used it with plastic models)... then lightly sand and re-paint.

Just a guess...
by the way, model putty can be bought at walmart (with models) i dont know how it would hold up to the elements.

Thanks for the help Larry, but there is nothing to pop out! its kinda like a divet on the links course...its gone! but i have been in touch with the body shop and they are giving me a pretty steep estimate, so im not sure what i will do yet. the putty sounds like an idea, but would that crack and fall out in the cold Ohio winters??

What about fibreglass & resin? Isn't that what they use on fibreglass bodies?

If you are talking about the valance, the cost of repair is higher than the cost of replacement.

If the vallance is textured, forget it, buy a new one. If it is smooth, it can be repaired and repainted and if its torn or has a hole in it you would be better off buying a new one also.

Go to Walmart or AutoZone, or where ever you buy your stuff. Look for a rubber bumper repair kit.
Buy it, then follow the directions. Some primer and touch up paint, then you should be done with
it.

Good luck

ABS and brake light
IP: Logged

Message:
These 2 lights stay on all the time on my 1994
Dakota. This happened once several years ago and I had it in to a dealer and they said they had to replace a relay. Does anyone know where this relay would be? or if something else could cause this. Every thing is working fine.

This rear bumper should fit from 97 through 04, is in great shape, with flame red lower panels.
I installed a roll pan, and the bumper is going to go to waste.
Make an offer.

Dakota_Dan,
3M makes a Flexible Parts Repair Material. It's a two part system for repairing soft auto body parts and bumper covers.

A pretty easy fix really...
mix the epoxy fill and let dry
sand
prime
sand
paint

What part of Ohio are you in?
