Subject: Gas milage and odor? IP: Logged
Message: I have an 93 Dakota 4x4 Ext cab with a recent problem that cropped up over the last couple of weeks. I noticed the strong odor of gas and a considerable drop in my milage from 17 MPG to 12 , and cannot seem to locate any cause for the odor or drop in milage. I have replace plugs , cap rotor and have not noticed any visible leaks.
Anyone help me with a probable cause. I was thinking maybe bad injectors?!?

Message: Check fault codes. But if it's that strong, you probably either have a leak or a leaky injector.

Message: yeah i would check the 02. When my 93 went from 14 city to 8 mpg it smelled like gas too. so i would say the O2.

Message: Well thanks for all the info...what I found was quite amazing. A small miniscule leak in the fuel feed and return lines that are running along the top of the frame rail befor the filter. Got it repaired and then did a code check and found a bad MAP sesnor. Got that fixed as well and what a difference. No O2 sensor failure at this point. Mostly rust cancer on the fuel lines.
Thanks again to all who helped!
