Subject: sputter low rpm take off IP: Logged
Message: I have a 1998 dakota, 3.9 V6. If I am cruising down the road and my rpms fall below 1200ish the engine begins to sputter. It also does this when taking off from a stop. At higher rpms (+ 1200) it doesn't miss a beat. Any ideas? Plugs, wires, fuel pressure, checked and ok.

Message: How about the distributor cap and rotor? Take off the cap and examine the 'contact' points inside, look for a crusty, brown-gray oxidation. It chips off easily with a screwdriver, if the symptoms dissappear for a few days, then it's time to buy a new cap and rotor.

Message: Sounds like your timing is way off too!
If you pulled the plug wires, are you sure you got them back in the right order?
Agree w/last post, Start at Cap & Rotor
