Subject: Which will keep it cooler? IP: Logged
Message: I'm gonna make a CAI and I'm not concerned with the PVC melting, but which tubing will keep the air colder PVC or aluminum tubing? Thanks

Message: I don't know what CAI is but aluminum will dissipate heat faster than PVC. PVC will be a better insulator. If the air is already cold and you want to keep it that way, go with PVC. If the opposite is the case, use aluminum.

Message: CAI is a cold air intake. since normally the engine compartment is hotter than ambient air (necessitating a CAI) the PVC will be better since it is a better heat insulator

Message: Alright cool, PVC it is then. I'll probably wrap it with some type of heat shielding too. I plan on running the CAI all the way through the radiator support and welding together a box to close off the engine compartment from the intake. I'll post some pics when I'm done.
