Subject: V8 TB IP: Logged
Message: I just recently got a hold of a V8 TB and wanted to know if those who have done this mod had ported the intake man. to match the new bigger TB. You can feel the gasket and smaller openings on the old man. if you feel inside the TB opening.
Also, what do you think not opening up the holes will do to airflow??? I am thinking nothing, but wanted to ask those that have done it.

Message: Also I have a superchips tuner, should I put it back to stock before I put the TB on, then re-adjust to "Performance"... or can I just leave it at performacne and let the computer adjust to the new TB.
Thanx in advance to all of ya.

Message: I did open the holes up just to match the TB just because I had the intake off. I think if you dont that defeats the purpose of having a larger TB.

Message: It all depends on if you can use that much airflow. Most people just replace the gasket. The manifold measures 47.5mm and the largest tb recommended for the 3.6 is 48mm. The v8 tb is larger than 48mm, that's why you feel that ridge. The manifold effectively reduces the v8 tb to 47.5mm. Don't worry about the manifold unless you have modified everything else to the max.

Message: Thanx for your input... just put the TB on and its great. I can't wait for the comp. to fully adjust to the new amount of air coming in.
I already feel the power difference on take off. I am really pleasantly supprised w/ the Superchips and the TB its like a whole new truck

Message: Got a friend who works for Dodge so he got my the V8 TB and cable. The superchips I bought from Jegs.
I notice that my RPM's while in park seem to jump around a bit from 700 to 900, but only in park, while in drive I feel no surges. Maybe I will diconnect the TPS and plug it back in.
overall very happy w/ new power though....

That won't do any good. Is it the original tps or did one come with your tb? Usually I just let it idle after first installing the tb. Sometimes it quits after about 10-15 seconds and sometimes it just hunts around and then settles down after about a minute or so.
Now that it is installed, try to resist any urge to adjust the idle with the so-called idle screw.

Message: The idle isn't jumping around as much today, but I did pop a code last night when driving to work. I put the Superchip and got the code...
can't remember if 1295 or 1495 right now. gonna wait and see if it pops agian after cycling the engine a couple of times.
Either LDP or TPS... have to wait and see.
I believe I left my original TPS on the old TB, can't remember that now either.. getting old sucks huh?

Message: If you have an EGR type TB on a post EGR engine you will get a 1495 code. I might have the solution and I'll get back to you on that.

Message: I actually got P1494 "Leak Pump Decetion Motor or Mechanical Failure". I think the TB is from a 2000 Dodge Van (says Holly not v8 like the dakota ones say), not sure, but I do have an actaul "V8" throttle body from a Dakota which I will install on Saturday.

Message: forgot to mention my truck is a 2002 cc 3.9. I bet even through the TB looks good and the connectors all fit, its the wrong one. Like I said I do have another one off a dakota, the one you have to get the cable for, and will put that in Sat. to see if it clears it up.

Message: All of the tb's are made by Holley. What is cast into the top varies depending the year or casting number. Only the earlier tb's made for engines with an EGR will give you any problem.
1494 is the code that most people get. 1495 is closely related. I recently modified an early tb to run on a non-EGR system. It's been several weeks and four tanks of gas and the code has not returned.

Message: Thanks to all for thier replies. I will let you all know is the "newer" TB I got makes the difference... like I said I don't what year the one I have on is from. It does seem to be 1-2 MM smaller than the newer one (which requires a cable switch too).
