Message: I have a 3.9 94 dakota with an automatic transmission. My first and second clutches are starting to wear down, im getting metalic CHUNKS all in my pan and caked on the magnet, and its clogging my filter!!!
It was recently 'about 2 yrs' rebuilt with a standard 1 yr warrenty. Im thinkin all they done was shuved a clutch pack in it...
Where could I go to get performance clutches to put in it 'if I even should, maybe should goto standard, figured it was more inexpencive this way'.
Im currently on an arm and a leg with only 600 bucks. What would anyones advice be? What kinda tranni does my 3.9 hold? What should I buy to prevent the metalic chunks... I know about the tranni cooler , thinkin about getting that after the fact I have new clutches in my tranni.
One more question "I forgot most of them, to many"
A slippy transmission will make the motor heat up?

Message: if your getting metal chunks it sounds to late for saving the trans clutches
how does the fluid look and smell?
if it smells burnt then the clutches are bad
does it slip and/or race up between shifts?
bands need adjustment
check with a DC dealer for a factory rebuilt,
they was about $1200-1300 exchange with a 3yr warr.
if you go to a local shop ask what they use for parts and if they do the upgrades and if they install a shift improver for longivity.
and bottom line are you getting what they say they,re doing for your money

Message: I read a post earlier, can't remember the name, it should only be a couple of pages back it was about cooling. It said that transmission slippage would most certainly cause the motor to run hotter. From what I could tell that should be noticeable when going up hill.

Message: your engine will not run hotter unless there is something wrong with the engine or cooling system as well. as said before, if you have burnt fluid, its all over. i highly doubt it need adjustment. if i were you, id get the tranny that goes behind the 318. it will bolt up, and everything should go just fine. that transmission will last alot longer, as its a heavy duty tranny, and they put it behind the 5.2/5.9's. that tranny is called the 46RH or A518. get that one.
