Message: UPDATE on this:
It is happening more frequently now. The temp needle rises till it hits the red, then immediately after the light goes away and temp hoes to normal. Today I had my heater on(blowing towards me). It was ice cold, even when turned to hot, until the light came on. As soon as it shut off and the needle started going down, the air turned hot. This has happened ALL of the last 5 times that I checked. I was hoping this new information might help somebody help me understtand what is causing this. Any ideas? Thanks.

Message: Yeah, the Thermostat isn't opening until it gets real hot. The fact that your heater core isn't getting hot coolant circulated through it until the temp gauge pegs clinchs it.
