I have to flush and fill my TF for the 30,000 mile service
and need to know where the MTF plug is located in the
engine compartment. I have the 2002 SXT with the 3.9L
V6 engine. thanks.

John

drain plug is in bottom center of trans. fill plug (i believe) is on the passenger side of trans midway up.

you really don't have to change the MTF that soon.. unless you routinely grind your dogs (gears) but if you want to there is a plug on the side of tranny case, not in the engine compartment

I have a 92 w/ a 5 speed manual... It has 118,000 miles on it, never changed or drainded the Manual Transmission Fluid, sounds like I should... Anyone know how to do it on one so old... When I put it in reverse it kind of grinds a little... I need help... What about a Throttle Body Spacer, do they work... Putting a 5.2 liter tb on as soon as I find one...? Help, please.

the drain should be either on the center bottom or low on the side of the trans. the fill plug will be on the side about midway up on the trans. yes, you should defintiely change the fluid.

now, i can't say what to use for sure. i haven't changed mine yet and have heard diff things. some say use 30W motor oil or Auto trans fluid or 75w-90w gear lube. if you've got an owners manual check it. if not you might want to spend the 20 bucks for a haynes service manual or check e-bay for a factory service manual.

i changed my manual trans fluid and it took 75w90. Pretty easy to drain, but a pain in the butt to fill with those bottles with the cap with the fill nozzle on it. I ended up getting a siphon gun and just took the fluid from the bottles and then used the gun with the flex hose to fill the trans. i have the ax-15 trans so it took about 6.6 pints to fill.

Use the 75W-90 gear oil, but try to see if you can get synthetic, you will see a difference in the shifting and over-all drivability of your dak. ck98daksport is right, it is a ROYAL pain in the @ss to fill the tranny, so if you can, get a "siphon gun", if not, you will only be able to get a little over half of a bottle of lube in the tranny before you can't squeeze anymore out. Like i said pain in the @ss.

I know this is an old thread but it really helped
me out. I'm putting 3 quarts of 75w90 (synthetic
blend) into my 1998 dodge Dakota v6 3.9l manual
transmission. I didn't have a problem getting the
fluid in. I just snaked a hose down from the top
of the engine and poured it in from there. Made it
much much easier.

Thanks from 7 years later!!!
