the other day my friend brought over her ford escort zx2. its an auto and so is my 2001 dakota sport 3.9 RC. my bro drove the zx2 and we wnet to race. now we didnt have a light we just did a count down on fingers. now to about 60 i was behind him. well my front was at his front wheel. my question is would i beat a zx2? i have a K&N frop in filter thats it, (for now)

He's got a power to weight advantage over you. I'm not sure what it would take, but you should be able to beat him after adding some other stuff. V6s seem to respond well to Cold Air intake systems (You can build your own! Ask around), then the IAT relocation and TPS adjustment (www.speedtweaks.net and go to 'Tips and Tricks'). If your comfertable with a dremel tool, and possibly having to spend money if you screw up, home-porting the TB works too. I'd also recommend the Autolite plugs, they were -very- cheap and helped improve my idle. Besides that, look into some sort of exhaust, either just a muffler or a full cat-back system. The exhaust on these trucks is -very- restrictive.

i have raced a zx2 thinking i could beat it b/c they run 15.9 stock i only ran a 16.3 last week at the track and i have a cold air intake, under drive pulleys, and dual exhaust. i realized my truck is going to take to much money to get it as fast as i want it so im selling it and getting a sports car. i hate to sell my girl but shes getting old and slow time for a new one =) i am trying to find a dakota r/t 97-99 around $15k with low miles those trucks are fast and you can getanythng for the 360

lol i am thinking of getting the r/t or the dodge stealth r/t. the only thing i hate about my truck is the tranny. dodge makes the biggest piece of waste auto tranny if i had another tranny i could proably take a half second off my time in the 1/4 mile. and todd have you ran your truck at the track if so whats it run?

for the same amount of money it would take you to
buy a new dak. you could build a much better
engine. take the 360. for about 5k you can build
one hell of an engine. one that'll be able to have
a musatng GT eating your exhuast. it all really
depends on how much you are into doin your own
work. but even still if you farm some of it out
you might be able to come out spending less money.
so its just a thought to ponder. eventually my dak
will have a 360 stroked out to a 408. with ported
heads and the works. granted it'll cost a pretty
penny but it'll be cheaper than me selling my
truck and buying a r/t. so jsut a thought.

I drove a ZX2 at my work and i was kinda impressed. I personaly think Ford is the biggest peice of crap, but for an escort it moved pretty good, granted it was a 5 speed manual. Just by driving that, i could tell it would beat my '01 CC 3.9 automatic, but that car is probobaly no more than 2700 pounds. Plus i only have an intake and some alutolites for now.

What a coincidence this post is....I actually own both a 99 5speed zx2 and a 2001 4x4 5speed 3.9 Dak.
There is now way in hell, stock for stock, a 3.9 can even keep up with the zx2. Granted, I love my truck, but it's definitely not built for speed.
The zx2 weighed 2750 with me in it and a full tank
The 3.9 weighed 4120 with me in it and 1/2 tank.
zx2 ran 16.5@~84mph
Dak ran 17.9@~75mph

i have a '99 zx2 its 0 to 60 in 7.4 sec. I thought my 5 speed manual transmission could beat an "03 cavalier 4 door auto, but i was wrong. The zx2 is fast only when mods are made peformance wise. When it is 100% stock they arent very fast.
