Subject: Timing light on coil wire IP: Logged
Message: I have a 97 cc, 3.9L. I replaced the cap and rotor this weekend, and ofcourse I switched some wires, but got that straightened out. While trying to figure out what I did, I was used a timing light to make sure each spark plug was getting a consistent fire. I decided to hook up the light to the coil wire too, and noticed a little miss. I am wondering if anyone has tried to do this before, and is this normal? It is a pretty old light so I'm wondering if the light just can't keep up with the coil. In my experience I have noticed that coils normally work or don't work, and there isn't an inbetween, so should I check something else out. Also, on humid mornings it seems like the truck wants to stall out upon startup. Thanks.

Message: I'm guessing - but I agree that my cheap old timing light could not probably recycle fast enough to keep up with the main coil wire. on those humid morngings (actually, its easier in the dark - so humid nights) look under the hood at all the secondary wiring for arcing.

Message: I know my timing is off a little, and wondering if it is retarded or advanced. With a timing light, from the front of the truck, looking down at the timing marks the mark is to the left of the TDC. Thanks for the help.
