Subject: Weight on Tailgate IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2001 dakota SLT. I want to put a ramp up to the back and load some small boulders: 300 - 500 pounds. Also, on another trip, a ride mower. How much weight can the tail gate take without damage? Taking off the tailgate can be done, but is a hassel I'd rather avoid. Thanks.

Message: I know mine can hold atleast 300 lbs of sacks without damage ive also drove a quad bike up ramps and i think those are close to 500 lbs.
Just me and my friend on there is over 500 lbs and with the thing we lifted it may have been 600 lbs on the tailgate.

Message: it will take 500 pounds easy, i've sat on my tailgate with another friend and combined weight is just under 500. no damage, maybe a little stress on the wire cables that attach the tailgate to the box but nothing else.

Message: the tail gate can handle quite a bit of pressure. i have had three people on it averageing out to about 500 pounds. i have driven bikes up on ramps. alot of dirt on it at one time (pulling it off with a tarp). it should be fine.
