My son was out running errands with his truck on Friday, we had some really weird weather here in Washington, anyway he was stopped in traffic waiting for the traffic light to change when lighting struck the guard rail. The lighting jumped from the guard rail to his truck and it shut down. He had to replace every fuse in the truck, I surprised it didn't wipe out the ignition and computer.

I had a man that works for me that was camping in an aluminum frame tent. The tent with hin inside got hit by lightning. He got some burns, frizzled hair and acted strangly for a couple of weeks but recovered. He now watches the weather closely before going out to do anything.

IntenseDak39,
Got it installed last year, it has about 10,000 miles on it since then. This was installed in a 92 shortbed. I guess you could say it was reincarburated. The truck in starting to develop a couple of minor tranny issues. Thanks.

Another Mark, I checked looked over the truck to see if I could find any visible signs of damage. I checked and could not really see any. I had read in the past in the Sunday newspaper where a car parked in the garage had burn marks on the paint from a ball of "St. Elmo's fire" apparently that had discharged from an electrical outlet hit the car bounced hit it again then discharged as it hit the cement floor. Here is an interesting link about "St. Elmo's fire":

Xmr,
There was a guy I use to work with that had naturely curely hair and he ended up with the nickname "220". He was constantly teased about him sticking his finger in a live light socket to get his hair curled. Anyway the nick-name stuck.

Update to the lighting strike, it apparently struck the radio antenna, my son told me his radio/cd player is toast. He wanted to replace it anyway.

off on the floor at least I had 1 cup

sitting in my living room watching tv struck
shook the house like a bomb went off electricity

after the strike and never worked again

Had a guy with a GTO get hit and it melted the
wire harnass under the dash board, his insurance
did pay to have it replaced

Very lucky it did not fry the computer

I talked to friend the other day in Colorado, he was telling me about a time when he lived in Kansas and a power pole near his house was struck by lighting it traveled in to the house and "fried" a bunch of wiring in the house. He said to trace where the wiring was in the walls due to the burn marks left on the sheet rock. He sai he was lucky the house didn't burn down.

Depending on where the lightening hits the wiring coming into the house, it can do that kind of damage no matter how well the house is grounded. We get lots of lightening strikes where I live; it's taken out half the GFCI outlets twice (lightening just hit one leg of the service) and a couple of phone answering macines. Saw it hit 3 trees a hundred feet from our covered deck while we were watching a summer storm, that's close enough for me. Blew strips of bark off the trees for most of their hight, but luckily the trees survived. I have a friend who's been hit twice; he has a very healthy respect for it !

my friends house was struck several years back when i was in school. Only real thing it did was knock some of the nails half way out of the sheet rock in some of the rooms.

I install sprinkler systems for a living. The other day here in michigan we had a downpour followed by a lightning storm. Any ways one of my customers had a tree hit, the lightning traveled down the tree and hit the main sprinkler line. It blew all the valves and the controller. Ended up costing her 50$ per valve <14 of them> and 200$ for the new controller. Its a shame but the house insurance would not cover it. Bs ehh???? I gave her 100$ off but damn would have ben nice to rip off an insurace company for once insted of them ripping you off, know what i mean???
