400 with 440 heads??

sounds like a waste of head gaskets... Jim, all the heads are the same except for the rare 915 closed chamber and the sh-tty closed chamber that was on the early 383.

everything else (906-452) are so damn close it wouldnt be worth it. 400's came with 452's that flowed a little better at .450-500 lift than the older 906's and had hardened seats. If you got 440 heads off of a 72+ 440, than it's the same heads that were on the 400. If you got older 440 heads, you'd need to install hardened seats to take the unleaded fuel.

915's were only on 68 or 69 HP 440's... and if you put those on a 400 with its .100+ piston/deck height, then you'll have detonation that no cam or any fuel could stop.
