The other day I put my cap on my dakota to go camping. When I pluged the wires in for the lights to work on it noting happend. I thought nothing of it and left it alone. When I went to leave and started up the truck I noticed that my radio was not working. So I checked the fuse it was just fine. So if figured I would take a better look at it later. Then I left and about 5 mins down the road I notice none of my gauges on my my dash. Every thing from Speedometer to the oil pressure gauge. Then I noticed my dome light was not working. I have check out every single fuse in the fuse box under the hood and inside the cab every thing looks good. I even check the fuselink. Has any one ever had a problem like this. I have a 1997 v6. club cab w/ a short box.

Do you have access to wiring diagrams for your truck?

This sounds like a common ground is that is loose/disconnected.
Nothing else could possibly affect so many unrelated systems at
once.

My CD player was stolen and I now have the same problem. There is a wire splice on a ground wire that connects at the back of the orig. factory radio. If their was a second wire coming into this splice, I can't find it. I doubt this splice is factory installed, but not sure. Hard to believe this one ground could cause all the instruments to go out.
