Subject: V8 TB IP: Logged
Message: I got a 2000 3.9 sport and I keep seeing posts about changing to a v8 TB. Is there any mods needed to be done or will it just bolt right on?

Message: Most likely you will need a different throttle cable which is available at you local dealer or maybe a junkyard. It's a bolt N go mod.

Message: It's a bolt-on mod, but you might want to mod your intake as well. The original throttle cable can be used (i did) but you will have to either modify the connection point on the cable to fit the pin(shaped like this "I-") on the TB or remove the old pin(shaped like this "0-") from your V6 TB and place it on your new V8 TB. The shapes are approximate but you'll get the idea.

Message: No, you don't have to modify the intake, but if you want a little more airflow than you get with just the TB swap, then i would recommend it. Believe me, changing the TB takes no time at all. The longest part is cleaning your sensors. Just remember to reset your PCM when your done (Pull one of the battery terminals, and then turn your key to "start" for about 10 seconds. Reconnect your battery terminal and you are set)

Message: I felt it mainly in the "pick-up", it accelerates better, and doesn't sound starved for air when you have to down shift/give it hell to pass someone of a hill. As for how much HP? I don't know, I would have to get it dyno'ed. I can "tell" there is more torque and HP, but not how much. I would get a TB at a junk yard, it's not like a ported piece of aluminum "goes bad", you will just have to clean it up. I can't tell how my GPM was effected yet, my PCM is still in it learning curve, but i will know after this next fill up. I will post more then.

Message: Most people like to feel their new found power and tend to put their foot into it more. Consequently they experience a lose in mpg. How much is entirely up to you.

Message: For your 02 be sure its a 96 or newer V8 body
non EGR type 96 and up
Use all your V6 sensors because you know there
good buy a new gasket for $1 bolt it on
start shut off start shut off start shut off 3
times this will learn the new idle
There is no need to do a hard reset it will learn
the new flow short term 50 miles after 200 miles
it will be fully learnd and run good it may run
funny for the first 50 to 100 miles than com down
The V8 body will add around 15 to 18 hp at the
wheels around 20 foot pounds of torque and if
you drive the same the gas mileage will be better
