Subject: A/C Problem........ IP: Logged
Message: On my '96 dak, the A/C compressor will come on all by itself, without pushing the a/c button. It will just start cycling on and off. When it does the rpm's go WAY up to like 4000 rpm's. It will stay there and eventualy come back down, but it will keep reving up HIGH then back down again. I had to throw it into neutral to keep from running into someone when I pulled up behind them at a light. Finally had to get out and unplug the a/c power.
Has anyone ever had this problem? It's baffling me.
thanks, daveo

Message: Never had that problem, but the a/c compressor is also hooked in with the heat as well, if you have the selector switch on anything but off, it will periodically cycle on and off.

Message: Nope, it's only hooked up to Defrost and A/C, not Heat. And if the fan switch is Off, it will not come on.
Sounds like a relay mistakenly switching on. Try pulling the A/C relay underhood and see what happens.
