Message: the float is part of the sending unit.
snooker - when you say the needle goes up past the spot where it should be, does it stay there or go back down to where it should be?
I had an issue with my gas guage, replacing the sending unit didn't fix it, but replacing the pump did (pump assembly includes a sending unit).

Message: It seems to me that the reason your gas gauge goes up and down is due to the fact that the gas in the tank, sloshes around. It's just that the gauge doesn't average out the sloshes in the tank and gives you higher or lower readings.
P.S. If you have an extra sending unit, are you willing to sell it?

Message: I have an extra one from my 95, I can get the part # later when I get home. I'm not sure what all models it will fit in. Yes, I'm willing to sell it.

Message: Dan, did you ever find that part # and whether or not it will fit the 96 3.9L 22 gallon tank?

Message: I called a dealer and they told me the 95 and 96 are not the same sending unit. I did verify with the 22 gallon tank - that is what I have as well.
