Subject: Transmission leak (Transfer case?)

Message:
Recently I broke 2 lug studs spinning my wheels and the wheel flew off but no real damage done; 6 new lugstuds and all seemed good until. Until I looked underneath the truck and found oil leaking. My friend says it could be coming from my transfer case that maybe a gasket blew from the truck jumping up and dropping on the axle. Anybody have an idea? My transmission sounds rough and the truck is sitting in the drive way now. When I start it up it sounds like a chain is rattling somewhere; as it goes higher in rpms there is a whining sound coming from underneath maybe from lack of fluid.

I need something to go into the transmission shop with. I don't want to be told I'm going to need a new transmission and all that jazz. Maybe I'll trade the truck in soon, it's becoming a headache.

2002 dodge dakota 3.9 v6 cc 5spd manual dual exhaust, jet chip, intake.

It also blows some smoke out of the exhaust at high rpms (neutral). Maybe it's carbon because the truck sat for about a month, or maybe the bellypan gasket. But at the bottom near the middle of the truck on the transmission it leaks a lot.

Sounds like the same problem the old jeeps had.

I cant remember what they call it but its where your rear drive shaft connects to your transfer case. The bearing goes out in there taking the seal with it. After a while it will sling oil onto the hot exhaust making white smoke as u drive.

As for the rattling im not sure mine does it also but only off the ground. My guess is a loose chain in the transfer case.
