Subject: V8 TB and what to install it????? IP: Logged
Message: I am getting ready to buy a V8 TB in a day or two and I was wondering what else besides the TB do I need to make the TB install happen? I have searched the forms but nothing I have seen has helped me. Please help thanks. O yeah i have read that the V8 butterflies hit the V6 intake manifold at full throttle. Where could I go to get this fixed and how much would this probably cost?

Message: It might help if we knew what year we were talking about and what TB you are considering.
Generically speaking, the butterfly won't hit the manifold. You may have to modify your stock air hat if it's a F&B TB you are getting. You really don't need anything else. You could put a new gasket on between the TB and manifold but it is not absolutely necesaary.

Message: The gasket costs around $2...I recommend changing it to avoid any potential problems with it not sealing properly afterward.
You may need a cable...depending on the linkage the new tb uses. If it uses the same linkage, you're fine. Otherwise you'll need to get a cable that has the same kind of linkage as the tb. Depending on the two types of linkages, sometimes you can modify the cable to fit without buying a new one but I've never had to worry about that so I don't know much about it.

Message: You could probably have swapped and modified your V6 throttle shaft in less time that it has taken to talk about getting a cable and about the same time as it takes to install the cable. The nice thing about doing the shaft swap is that you can go back to stock or install an F&B without switching cables again.

Message: hello. I have a 2000 dodge dakota sport 3.9 v6. The only mod
it has is a thrush turbo exaust. I found a v8 TB off a 1999
dodge ram 1500 5.9 v8 for $40 dollars. The only thing is that
I'm not sure how to install it properly. Can I take off all the
hardware where wires plug into the stock one and bolt it on
the new one? Also do I have to unplug the battery?
and if I have to buy new cables, how would I take the old
ones off? I'm 17 and have been learning about cars for about
a year now Nd I'm sure this is easy just don't wanna run into
Any trouble.
the truck gets horrible mullahs, is awefuy sluggish Nd I'm
trying to wake it up.
thanks

Message: Check cable connections at the TB they might be
different. If so easiest way is to swap out cables
with the TB. The TB swap does ad a bit of power but
it ain't seat of the pants.

Message: Yes disconnect the battery, make sure to reset the PCM after
the whole installation..
And I have no idea if all the sensors will be the same but why
don't you disconnect them off your stock TB and compare it
to the ram's TB, if they look the same then go for it.
And as far as the cables go....ummm I got no idea how to do
that haha.

Message: thanks a bunch guys. I've read alot of the posts on here and
it's really helped me. I'm going to get a 180 thermostat, I'm
probably going to seafoam it as well. It has only 77,000 miles
for being a 2000, but the owner didn't take care of it (engine
wise) when he had it. I will try the TB when I go back to my
house next week, since I am out of town.
I'll let you guys know how it goes.
Thanks.
p.s. Hope to find a 2003 Dak R/T soon:)
either that or a 2000 civic si (you probably don't wanna hear
that, but trust me, I HATE rice. JDM)
