Message: For those of you that own a 92 Dakota V6 (3.9) good luck. I've spent endless hours "Online" and cash trying to resolve the rough idle stumble these vehilces are apparently calculated to have @ 70,000 mile. Why should we have to put a timing chain on, replace a gasket on an inspection plate only accessible after you remove the intake. Now I'm down to what I hope is the last thing to cap off this entire string of events-"injectors". Then maybe a computer. I will sell this piece of junk eventually. By the way this website has been the most help of all.
Thanks..........

Message: My 95 was running very rough, after replacing the breather, breather hose, breather grommet, pcv grommet and pvc hose, it idles MUCH smoother.
I think the biggest improvement was from the grommets then hoses. The grommets are rubber and became hard over the years and were leaking. When looking at them it was hard to tell they were rubber and not plastic.
I picked up the breather grommet from advance but had to order the pvc grommet from a dealer.

Message: Try the following:
1. Clean the IAC idle air controller that bolts to the back side of the throttle-body. The side facing the firewall. It will carbon up and cause ruff idle.
2. To cure an off idle stumble on start the TPS modification should be done.
3. On the Gen 2 pickups the O2 sensor should be replaced at about 60,000 miles at 70,000 miles your over-do.
These these and give us feedback when you have the problem fixed.

Message: Let me be a little more specific. I have cleaned and or replaced every sensor or active component that there is-not short of the dealer putting a new crank sensor in (boy they new nothing and wanted to sell me a new Dakota-Ha). Actually I have one injector failing intermittently-was finally able to verify computer output voltage to injector is stable 2.00vdc+/-. I've ordered a new set from FMS through Fiveo-will let you know. However I still contend, being an old school hot rodder that the core mechanical parts are failing too early-we American manufacturing is above this and should be ashamed-granted my truck is a 92, but has been garaged and well maintained. I also realize a cat-converter is in the near future-not sure I like the price for performance technology. You fellows have a nice day.
Thanks again for the postings-very helpfull.

Message: We'll so much for the injector install...30 miles into the test drive the dam thing coded 2-7 (injector circuit not responding). I have visually checked the wiring harness as much as possible and don't see a problem. Any ideas? Is it time for a computer?

Message: Have fun with that shlt. I'm sure Dodge will miss having an A1 customer like you. I can hear the execs in Dodge crying, "why did Rich buy a Ferd? He was our best customer!"
Don't expect that a 13 year old vehicle won't have issues. Good luck with the Ferd. You'll probably need a loan to keep it on the road and watch out for ignition fires.

Message: From reading over the original post it looks like you replaced a bunch of stuff that didn't need replacing because you didn't know how to properly diagnose the source of a noise you didn't like.
Am I right?
Is it the fault of Dodge that you are a lousy mechanic?

Message: you may have had bad luck with your 3.9 dakota, however this is the same engine you see going 200k+ with minor problems.
I wouldnt call this motor junk, it is nothing but a chopped 318, and we all know u cant kill a 318. Go to a derby and find out for yourself. Both are very reliable motors none the less.

Message: most likely the underhood wire harness running to the fuse block. there is a connection that corrodes and causes intermittent stalling. it controls fuel, spark, and computer so you could see the problem. so i would look there first.

Message: Billy B, my 88 did that a when it was about 8yrs old, ended up being the SMEC (computer). My friend had a Plymouth Acclaim that did that though and it was the Hall effects pick up.
If it were me, replace the hall effects pick up, it's pretty cheap...if that doesn't work take it to the dealer and have your computer checked. Usally they won't tell you when they die. Speaking of, what fault codes does it give?
