Message: I have a 98 Dakota with a 3.9L. When it is idling it has good oil pressure, but when you touch the gas pedal it starts going down and eventually hits 0. The truck has a 180k on it so I fear the worst and am afraid it will not be cheap to fix. Anybody got any ideas of any known little problems that cause that or I am in for a rebuild?
Thanks

Message: when the pressure drops does it start knocking?> if the engine truly isnt getting any oil you will hear it knocking for sure, so maybe checking the oil pressure sending unit, sensor Ect is a better place to start

Message: Had this identical problem with a 3.9, great pressure when idling but when you start driving the pressure drops. Had an oil sensor that leaked oil into it and as the oil pressure increased seemed to read lower. Changed the oil pressure sending unit, back to normal.
