Message: Sorry guys,
I know this is a dodge forum, but you people really know your stuff and I trust you. I have a 1990 Honda Accord that is blowing out very "cool" air from the air conditioner. It's not cold like it should be.
Do I just need a re-charge? If so, how much would something like that run me? Can I do it myself? Thank you.

Message: if it's got r134 refrigerant you can buy a can and squirt it in there. that should cure it. if it's r12 you got a problem.

Message: It's a 90 so it's R-12. Been reading about conversion kits, blah, blah, blah,
Is this something a regular joe can do by himself? Assuming the old R-12 is vaccumed out by a shop somewhere? How much will that cost me?
How much will all the new parts cost? Roughly?

Message: i believe there are some drop in refrigerants, 409, something called "hot shot" that i think that are compatible w/R-12. you got to watch it though. some of these drop-ins use propane which is extremely flammable.
or you can convert but, a full vacuum of the system, drier- 70 to 90 bucks and expansion valve - prolly around 20 bucks. some will say they have just recharged w/R134a. the oils in R12 & R134a are NOT compatible. if they mix it will turn to a thick, sticky goo which is not a very good lubricant for the compressor.
hope this helps
