I did that switch. Took a couple hours. It definitely freed up a little power. I don't think that it's worth the cost and time though.

Another Mark: I cannot disagree more. The constant drain of crank energy being robbed by the parasitic viscous clutch fan should be enough to convince even you to delete it. Factor in the lighter alternative of flex fans or electric pullers, and the extended life of fan belts and water pump impellor seal. It is no fun walking out to a parking lot to see a green puddle under the truck coming from what used to be the water pump. I'd rather skip installing a new clutch everytime it leaks out or tearing out a water pump (major pita). Cooler underhood temps should extend the life of all plastic and rubber parts under the hood, and faster warm-ups on cold days can really add up to real savings in no time. There is one more huge benefit, this mod opens up ALOT of room infront between the radiator and the fanbelt(s) enhancing cooling and making belt changes and tension adjustments easier. If you ever need a new radiator (nobody ever sees a leaky radiator, do they??), all the hassle of removing the clutch fan and shroud has been removed.
