Subject: Air hat question IP: Logged
Message: Looking for an Air hat, ive been to 4 scrapyards none of them had any 97+ dakota's. Would I be able to ask about another vechile like a Durango ? Also the dealership gave me a estimate of 70 dollars for the air hat, so I said forget that. Any suggestions where I could look also for a air hat for a low price 20-40 dollars.

Message: I'm sure the Durango and Ram air hats are the same exact part.
Vehicle manufacturers don't like making parts unique to specific
vehicles if they can avoid it. This isn't a special part. You could
call the parts department and get the part number for all three
to check.
Try www.auto-part.com they are an internet broker for lots of
junk yards across the country. $70 isn't bad considering you
will pay for shipping from someone else if you order online.
There is also a Dodge parts internet site out there somewhere.
Try Kohler Dodge, they are big on internet sales.

Message: Shipping should be cheap...those suckers are super light. Keep looking, someone's bound to have one for sale. I'd sell you mine, but when I sell it (still deciding on whether to keep my stock parts or not) it's prolly gonna be sold with the airbox and tubing and stuff.

Message: I have a K&N for a 95 and wonder if converting is worth the cost vs benefit. It would mean buying an air hat and another K & N cool air intake system or something similar. If the benefit is small I'd rather put my money into another mod.

Message: I've paid through the nose for "light" items in the mail. Hell I've paid $5 for something that a .37 cent stamp would have covered. Just something to consider. Junk yards aren't like most businesses. They don't work in clean offices ready to pack your part and only charge you what the weigh scale says to charge. Too much thinking.
