Subject: Stalls and loses power IP: Logged
Message: i just bought a 95 3.9L v6. It has about 150k miles. it ran great until a few days ago. I have to give it gas for a few seconds after startup, or it stalls. Sometimes it loses power while driving. After a few seconds of pushing the gas, it accelerates again. Every once in a while, it will stall for no reason, then crank back up w/ no problem. There was no air intake hose when i bought the truck and there was a tranny leak, which i fixed. a friend said since it was only getting air from under the hood, then sucking up the burning tranny fluid may have been the problem. Could someone please help?

This post might actually explain your problem. i would also clean the idle air control motor on the back of the throttle body, just spray with carb cleaner and wipe down (don't twist or push and pull it...damages it) combination of those two easy fixes and i think you should have a fine running truck

Message: In addition. How much gas is in the tank? Have you checked the PCV value?
I just replaced the fuel pump in my 95 CC 4x4 3.9 on saturday. Whenever I would get to ~8 gallons of gas, mine would stall and run crappy - stall, rough idle, hesitation, etc. If I fill the tank up, ran fine again until about ~8 gallons left. I pulled the bed off, and emptied the tank, put in the new pump and new gas and it works fine. I replaced the pump mainly for 2 reason, the filter was nasty , it's not replacable. And the sending unit would not work but it works fine on the new pump. The pump I replaced was the original one from the factory.
A few months ago, I was driving down the highway, lost power and ran poorly. I replaced the PCV and works fine. I know, it's either supposed to work or not work, not be intermittent. Contrary to what others here have said, it was intermittenly bad (ball inside would stick). Pull the pcv out and shake it about 5-10 seconds to see if it rattles all the time. Mine would for a few seconds then stick.

Message: i just checked the pcv valve. it rattles, but it's filled w/ gunk. the truck wouldn't start, and I messed w/ the coil wire(switched it around), and it started up. Is my coil bad? Could that be why it stalls? I've heard that if it is good, it is magnitized, but it's not. Thanks.
