Message: I recently cut off the muffler on my 3.9. It's a neat sound when you crank it, but it is SO LOUD in the cab. I haven't heard it other than idle outside the truck (don't trust anyone else to drive her so I can hear what she sounds like!).
I, too, am getting a Gibson cat-back system. I figured I'd run open for a while just for kicks. Now I get a headache every time I drive anywhere!

Message: I have a '92 CC 3.9 with Cat-back duals no mufflers exiting at the back corners through 22'x3 1/2" chrome tips. It sounds good, present but not objectionable in the cab. The more the exit aims toward the sides the more you here in the cab. If you don't want to here it, run duals straight back. I have had many complements and most are surprised to here it's a v6 and are impressed. Awesome reverb whenever I'm going through a neiborhood and I can set off car alarms in parking garages. If you want to here loud, listen to my dad's 72 Chevy, duals side exit in front of the rear tire, no cats, no mufflers just 5.7L of volume. That'll give you a headache.

Message: I have an 89 4x4 V6 conv. My rear end is raised 2 1/4", how or can I run straight a pipe exhast. It seems the rear axle is in the way. I need as much free flow as possible by adding a catback for any amount of extra power. I plan on adding a 180 thermo, cold air intake and a Jet stage chip. But i can figure out the straight pipe. fevertree1

Message: fevertree1, what most people mean when they say they are running straight pipes, they mean no muffler, just pipes. The saying first started long before I was born, well, ok maybe not so long before then, but any way when guys started doing the straight pipe it really was straight.
Now though I think it just means no muffler.
Just my thoughts.

Message: Yea i ditched my cherry bomb awhile ago when it rotted in half. Now i just got a cat and it dumpin out in front of the back right wheel. Really deep hummm at low speeds in the cab almost annoying but i like it. IF you matt it say going on a high way and let it get to about 4 grand it sounds pretty damn good. This is on a gen 1 dakota to. So its slow as balls neway.

Message: I have a 1998 3.9 v-6 4x4. the cat stopped up so I cut it off and welded in a pipe. I didn't really notice any sound difference. then I decided to cut the muffler off. its loud. but it has a surprisingly good sound for a v6. but to make it a little quieter I am going to weld in a thrush glasspack. if you want loud straight pipes is definitely what you will want. but for the best tone and to make it a little quieter I would highly recommend to spend $30.00 and buy a thrush glasspack.
