Subject: A/C Hp Loss? Heat on Better Perfomence? IP: Logged
Message: THis may be stupid
but i had to ask
when the max ac is on, it does draw hp
from the engine?
when the nothing is on but the temp is set
all the way hot, Does that increase engine
performce by helping some of the heat escape?
It seems to perform better to me?
Just some stupid questions

Yes. The engine provides the rather considerable amount of power required to roll the A/C compressor. Enough power that on a very hot day on a long hill climb that extra power drawn from the engine may cause it to overheat.

It may, under some circumstances. On a very hot day if your engine is overheating, you can provide some cooling of the engine water by turning the heater and it's blower on to full blast. That takes advantage of the extra radiator core in the cabin heater to withdraw engine heat.
>It seems to perform better to me?
I think that's stretching it.
