my 1994 dakota 3.9 4x4 automatic is taking to long to start. the truck has 150,000 miles. i replaced all the obvious, plugs, wires, and cap and rotor. i just replaced the egr valve, that didnt help either. the truck takes 15- 20 seconds to start, then it sputers and takes a minute for it to go away. and sometimes stalls at start. anybody no whats going on? or have the same problem? thanks jason.

Ref 94' Dak running rough 4/06/2001. Might be similar problem. Fix was to get computer reset with handheld programmer mechanics have. They told me the comp. has to be reset whenever you change elect. components. This did not come from dealer but it has ran fine since doing it over (1) year ago. $39 and 5 minutes.

Service engine light
IP: Logged

Message:
My service engine light came on recently while on a trip. The truck seemed to cut out and was running ragged. It now is starting to die when I come to a stop. I have checked the computer trouble shooting by swithching the ignition on and off and get a code 21. Is that the o2 sensor and if so where on the vehicle is it.

Thanks,
Joe

The problem may be a leaky injector. Does it take a long time to start all the time? Try to let it run for a bit and then shut it off. Then try to restart right away and see if it starts ok.

Then try stopping it and let it sit for a short time. Then try a restart. If it always starts quickly after it was just shut off, but takes a long time to start after it sits, then it could be a leaky injector.

A leaky injector puts gas into a cylinder and when you try to start it the computer reads an over-rich condition. Then it will try to keep it as lean as possible untill the condition clears itself. This is why it takes time to start and the runs bad for a moment.

21 is the O2 on the 94 it is located under the
truck in the Exh Y pipe right in front of the
converter.

Next time you need a code look here
http://autorepair.about.com/library/ts/obd-i/bl-dtcs-main.htm

click on 1994 Chrysler and you will find all of
them

Besids a injector I would check your fuel presure
45 to 49 lbs and should hold it for a few hours.

There is a valve on the feed line or rail to screw
a guage on

my fathers headlights cut out on him recently on the way to work. He rode into work with the flashers and once inside someone told him his lights were on. Once home nothing and then a quick trip gave a glimmer of light but once shut off there was no more responce. I checked the fuses and to my knowledge there is not a fuse for the headlights. I replaced the headlight switch with no better results. My mechanic friend told me over the phone to check the dimmer (switch for the brights) for a short. Once I removed the cover over the collum my father threw a fit. Please tell me if I am persuing the correct fix.

the knocking in your engine is the timing chain and it is normal for magnum engines, im not saying it is good, but the timing chains strech out incredebly fast for w/e reason, but someone(not sure who) makes a dual timing chain set for daks, nice upgrade, i sstill need one.

Sounds like faulty fuel injectors, if they are original, then you've done well to have them last 150'000 miles.I just ordered a set of 6 brand new upgrade Bosch injectors from fiveo for $259.50. Call phone 562-867-4999 if you decide you need injectors. I checked around and no one can touch there prices for brand new injectors. Hope thie helps.

Check fault codes.

Check the TPS by sweeping it with an analog ohmmeter to look for dead spots.

There are no fault codes showing. How do I go about
checking the tps with an ohm meter and what should the
