Subject: 3.7L or 3.9L IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2000 3.9L 5 Speed RC and i was wondering what the power difference in a 3.7L would be. And is the 3.7L as reliable as the 3.9L. Thx

Message: Can't remember the specs of the 3.7...but the 3.9L is 175HP 225TQ I'm pretty sure. The 3.7L has more power, but as far as reliability goes, I'd have to give it to the 3.9L (afterall, it is based off the 5.2L 318) at least for now until the 3.7L can prove itself.

Message: I have a 99 Dakota SLT club cab with the 3.9 liter v-6. I did a lot of Dakota shopping before i purchased the one i did... and that included driving a 2004 club cab with the 3.7 v-6. Same 4spd transmission, same rear end ratio. The 3.7 is rated for 215 hp and 235 pound feet of torque... but my 3.9 seems to have a hell of a lot more get up and go. I have added a high flow air filter and flowmaster dual exhaust...but my 3.9 has almost 99000 miles on it and it has a hell of a lot better power then that 3.7. I wouldnt trade it for another 6 cylinder in the world!

Message: Correction
3.7
210HP@5200rpm
235TQ@4800rpm
3.9
175HP@4800rpm
225TQ@3200rpm
Not much difference in torque, but more in horsepower. The only reason why the 3.9 might feel faster in the exact same setup in a truck is the 3.9 maxes out in the low end of the powerband. While the new 3.7 reaches at much high rpms. So you'll get out of the hole quicker. Unless you rev up the 3.7 but most likely spin the tires launching at such a high rpm. But if you were to hit the track with both the 3.7 would out run the 3.9. (Stock/Stock)
