Message: Great mod for you. Do you have a 5-speed or auto? If you have an auto, I'd go right to 4.10. That can be a little steep with a stick though, depending on what you run for tire height.

Message: I put them into my 5pd v6 and have no regrets. I have good 'quickness' [I assume you mean off the line, not top end?] but I have to shift into second almost immediately. In fact, for average to slow around town, I frequently will just start off from stop in second gear to avoid the need to shift so rapidly, as I don't like to wind the engine out on my truck [on my motorcycle, that is another story]. Also, if you are on ice I would recommend starting in second to avoid spinning out.
I got this gearing not for quickness but for low end torque when I am on fireroads or offroad, that way I can pull myself out of many situation I would fry the clutch on a 3.21 diff with. At the same time I had an Auburn LSD put in. Within a month the advantage was apparent, as I backed my 2wd up to turn around and buried it to the axle in loose dirt that I thought was packed. Worse yet, I was pointed butt-end down a hill and my back end was off the flattened road now. I jumped out, found a discarded sheet of plywood [talk about luck!], broke it in two and put it under both tires, and it just pulled right out. With the open diff I would have expected to spin out as I did so, but is just pulled smoothly up and out.
THAT is why I did it, but I have noticed you will get a faster start at the line. Of course you will be at higher rpms on the freeway at 65-70 as well. It is a trade off. The throttle body and some of the other mods give you an increase in power in a fairly uniform band across the entire spectrum of rpm/speed, and they don't seem to be as limiting. If you don't intend to drive over 80 often, I would go with the 3.92s. I won't go back!

Message: i have a auto. they seem like a good idea but yea sometimes goin to school i hit around 80 or 90, i heard they're good for passing also so i assume they dont neccesarly take away from top end power. i think going to 4.10 might kill my gas milage which i am not looking to do. i drive on the interstate everday at least 30 minutes all 2gether so wouldnt 4.10s not be good for that? thanks for all the help. o and also i read they are good for towing my little 6 sometimes has trouble with my bass boat thanks a million guys!

Message: i have a 90 dakota with a 3.92 rear end and 3.9 engine at 125 horsepower
i also have a 92 with a 3.55 rear end and 3.9 engine at 180 horsepower-was.
the dakota with the bigger rear end is alot faster off the line. i walk away from the light, it seems like i am a half a vechile ahead everytime with no effort. but on the freeway, it likes to cruise at 65 to 70 and anything over that it sounds like its working to hard. but i am going to get a 4.10 for my 92 because of how much the rear end made the difference on my first dakota

Message: Go for the 4.10s
All though i own a quad cab with 31" tires the outcome in mpg would be different when compared to a smaller vehicle
I actually gained 1 mpg in highway miles due to the fact i can use overdrive and i gained the nice ability of accelerating up hills now.
In town mileage was the same with overdrive on or off. That caught me as odd since i wasnt on the gas as hard to leave stops.
