Subject: '92 V6 3.9 no spark IP: Logged
Message: Im at my wits end right now. My truck was running like crap, so I took a look and I needed to replace my cap, rotor wires etc.... After doing that, was still not running great, so I took a deeper look and my oil pump rod was worn. So I replaced that. But, when I went to time my truck, it wouldn't.
I aligned the oil pump rod to the #1 position on my cap. That started it but turning the cap only made it worse.
Now, it turns over, but theres no spark. Took my volt meter to test the wires going IN to my coil and nothing. I opened my ASD relay and didn't see anything wrong with it. Can anyone offer me some help with what else could be the problem?
Thanks

Message: you cannot adjust base timing on a dakota, it is computer controlled. you screwed up your injector sync by turning the distibutor. to fix what you have done:
put the motor on tdc for the number 1 cyl on the compression stroke (rotor should point to passenger side)
take off the cap and look straight down over the rotor.
loosen the distributor and turn until the rotor points at the number 1 cyl line on the base plate.
that should get you running

Message: like 93 dak said and you won,t have fire at the coil unless you have someone crank it while your testing

Message: do as '93 suggested. if you still don't have fire check the crank position sensor.

Message: Well, I repositioned the Dist. Cap to the #1 line....still no go.
I will be installing a new Crank Position Sensor tomorrow.
I hope it works.
Thanks for the replies
