Message: I went through the same agony recently on my 02 Dakota V6 4x4. The dealership upgraded the flash on my PCM and this P0551 code get comming on every two weeks. I'd take it in and 2 weeks later it was on again. The code is for a power steering switch that doesn't exist on an 02 but the dealer can't reflash the code to an older one. The Dodge Technical Bulliten actually had a fix for this, they install the damn switch which tells the computer to shut up. Gotta love American enginuity.

Message: What is reflashing the PCM supposed to do? Can someone other than a dealer do it?
Anyone know how to wire in the switch to the V6?
Or does anyone know how to put a jumper in the harness?

Anyone got any resources or ideas?

Message: I've read that some people have faught with the dealers over this issue to make them fix it for free, since this is a vehicle fault, not a wear and tear type deal.
Anyone have any dealer experience at this? I'm gonna give them a call monday I suppose and see what might happen.
