 Subject: 88 and 89 model 3.9L

I have a 89 4x4 Dakota 3.9L V6 with a 4 speed (bad) tranny. Reverse doesn't work and only will shift thru 3rd gear (no overdrive!!) Looking at a 1988 4x4 with all the options. Do the 88's have the same tranny(A500) and parts as the 89's? IE: Computer, sensors and hookups? Any help would really be appreciated!!!

early modle 88's some did not have lockup
89 has lockup
change the converter also and you will be fine
