I just did this mod, and getting to that 1/2" bolt for the distributer in my 2003 4x4 dakota was the worst part.

I drove to Napa and bought a 1/2" "Crows Foot" (almost $18, my ass is still hurting from that). The crows foot and about 8" of 3/8" ratchet extensions did the trick. Also a stubby 1/2" wrench should work, and an obstruction wrench should work(they are like a normal wrench, but bent in a "C" shape to get around objects).

If you couldnt find any of these, you could just go to ACE hardware and buy a cheap 1/2" wrench ($4-$5) and cut off the "open" end of the wrench so that it fits back behind the engine, and use the "box" end on the 1/2" bolt.

ok let me make sure i did this right...

pretend the "cyl" mark on the distributer is 9'oclock, what side of the "cyl" mark do you want the roter on? 8 oclock? or 10 oclock?

i just did this mod and it looks like my mileage just dropped pretty good, but i cant say for sure yet cause it was almost all city driving...

Thank you

Tyler

It would be "10 o'clock", or that rotor tip will be clockwise from the cyl mark on the housing. Rotating the dist body counterclockwise will put the mark just counterclockwise to the rotor tip.

the rotor should be toward the cab of the truck in front of the cyl line as bob stated.
