Subject: Trouble Code - Please help! IP: Logged
Message: Hi all.
I have a 98 3.9 dak CC. My check engine light is not on, however, i have a cylinder 4 misfire code that wont go away. Now, in NY, they decide that you have to have it plugged in for inspection and it will fail if there are any codes on there. Terrific for me, NOT! Anyone have any ideas on what it can be? The injectors are reletively new. Same with plugs wires cap rotor. I checked the plug and wire and they look good. I have less than 3 weeks to fix this problem. A mechanic said it may be the intake, has anyone else had this problem? I was thinking maybe carbon buildup or something?

Message: check the injectors with a stethascope or listen with a long handled screwdrive. check for a leaky plenum gasket look down the tb with the butterflys open and look for pools of oil. You might also check for a loose pickup coil in the distributor. there are many other reasons try the "search" bar on this forum if these don't locate your problem

Message: do a hard reset and that should get rid of the code, do it and see how long it takes to spring the code again, if you can run it for a while without the code then reset again around the corner from the place and that should buy you some more time if you cant figure it out by then. as for a guess, i would say probably a leaking belly pan gasket.
