Subject: Strange oil consumption?? IP: Logged
Message: Hmm.. heres a strange one for ya,.. 98 3.9 runs great but eats oil like you would not belive.. 1 quart per.. 200 miles? Heres the real wierd part.. No blue smoke.. no external oil leaks.. I can rev it to the redline and there is no smoke at all. Question.. where is the oil going to?..If its not burning,or leaking??? I changed out my PVC valve wich was buzzing while in operation, with a new one thats doing the same thing.. No vacume leaks that I can find, I drive the thing like a bat outta hell but all the same that kind of oil consumption is crazy. Any ideas would be helpfull.

Message: well gloomygoblin, my dakota isnt burnin any oil but i did have the same exact problem out of a ford one time. there was no blue smoke, no oil leaks or anything but the darn thing was burnin about a quart every 500 miles. the only thing noticeable was it would rough idle sometimes which i wasnt sure if this was even related to the oil consumption. well it was. it had two blown intake manifold gaskets. hope this helps!

Message: i am willing to bet that your belly pan gasget is bad. and the only place for it to go is being burnt, its just not alot at a time and spread out through the cylinders evenly, so you dont see the smoke.
