Subject: 93 V6 Problem/Exchange IP: Logged
Message: Problem: Vehicle lurches while on an incline with the motor off and in 1st gear. Checked compression and all in specs. 140,000 miles.
Exchange: I'm thinking of getting another engine and rebuilding it. Which years would be compatible???

Message: Ummm....no. The higher the gear, the lower the gear ratio, and the easier it is for the vehicle to roll. That's why it's recommended to put it in reverse whether facing uphill or down - it's the highest gear ratio. 5th will make it easiest to roll. Try it.

Message: i guess i was thinkin backwards about the gear ratios, you are correct, the 5th gear ratio is less then 1 to 1 making it easier to turn the motor over, thank you for correcting me.
