Subject: Gas mileage help IP: Logged
Message: I was just wondering about something. I have to cover on the bed of my dak, but am planning on it by the summer. I have heard they help increase your gas mileage right? Well, until then, if i were to ride with the tailgate down, would that also help? With gas prices going up, i just want to get the most mileage i can on my stock 02 4x4

Message: Tailgate down or removed has no, or slight negative, effect on airflow over the truck. So the best scenario is with the tonneau cover, next best is with tailgate up.
Best way to get highest gas mileage is better control of your right foot. Free, most effective modification there is.

Message: from a real live cover owner: gained 2 mpg on a 300 mile trip with the cover on, vs. no cover.
tail gate down on same trip= same as gate up.

Message: The tonneau will definately help. How much, depends on how hard/fast you drive. Not long after I first got my soft tonneau on an almost 400 mile round trip driving 55-60 I got 25 mpg. I usually avarge 22 on the highway driving 65-70. I have a 95 CC 4x4 3.9L auto.

Message: Dan....
any chance you can email me at olscout99@yahoo.com so I can get some back channel info on what you've done with your truck and what mods you've made to it to get it where it's at? Seems like you're where I want to be, so I'd like to pick your brain a little.....

Message: pretty much everyone here considers the turbonator a joke though noone has tried it to my knowledge.
a light foot is always good for gas milage, so is as little stop-and-go driving as possible.
proper tire pressure and a well maintained vehicle are all more efficient on gas usage.

Message: Turbonator, throttle body spacers don't work. Any other $20 gadget at a parts store is not going to work, there is no magic cure out there like this. I wish there was, I'd buy a whole bunch of goofy things with strange names to improve my mileage.
