according to a friend who is all into dakotas tells me dodge made somethign that i am very intereted in getting. Heres the dilio i live in the midwest where i get hits with tons of snow, well i would like to have a 4x4 but you cant lower it with the 4-5" drop with the 4x4 because of the transcase, well AWD you can. so i was thinking about putting AWD on a dakota well my friend tells me dodge made a couple from 01-02 somewhere in there with AWD but yet is says 4x4 on the tailgate, is this true or is he just pulling my leg?!

WHY would you want to lower a 4x4/AWD??? If you want a bulldozer...buy a bulldozer.

...and yes, some of the newer Dakotas (can't remember what year they started doing it) are AWD. I don't believe any of the V6's are though.

GB2000, lowering a 4x4 will make it handle better. And if screwuphead wants to slam a truck and still drive it in the winter, the 4x4 is the best way.

Screwuphead, I would look into an airbag system. Especially if you get lots of snow. That way, you can get it up off the ground in the deep stuff.

yea i know all about the airbag system, if i have a 4x4 and i slam it, i have to do a body drop to have it look right. kinda sucks but eh. i raised the body on my Wrangler soo it cant be too different, anyways... idk....but see i also gotta look at everything from an econmical stand point since this is the vechail i am running back and forwth to college with!

Not after a nice big snow. Ever seen what happens when the snow is higher than the amount of ground clearance your vehicle has? You turn into a bulldozer until your wheels are no longer on the ground. Then you're stuck.

...now of course I have a four-wheeler so all I gotta do is get off and do a lil lifting and pushing while giving it hell in reverse. A tad bit more difficult with a heavy truck.

GB2000 is correct, having a 4x4 doesnt help crap when you are tryin to plow the snow with the front of your truck. if you want to have a lowrider, buy a 2wd. you will probably do just as well if you put posi in the back...and i live in the "midwest" and unless you have 3 feet of snow on the ground RIGHT NOW then you dont get much snow.

I think that the point that has been overlooked here is that most people that lower a car or truck do it for better dry and wet road handling. In that case an all wheel drive would handle that much better than a rwd.

Sorry, I lost track of where the guy was from. However, most people are not concerned about driving during blizzard conditions. Most winter driving is done on plowed, icy, slick roads. In those conditions, a lowered awd would handle as well, or better than, a standard height awd. I think if he wants to do it, and can find a truck to do it to, he should go for it.

screwuphead has a legit question, it's his choice with what he wants to do with his vehicle. If you don't like it don't ride with him.I'm curious also to see if this would work.
anyone out there wanting to show how much they know rather than how little?

Just as how it's OUR choice to say how f'n stupid some of us think it is. If you don't like it, give your opinion on the matter rather than insult some of us about ours. Contradicting yourself doesn't help get your point across either.
