hey all..i have a 97 dakota v/6..i jusy got off the phone with flex a lite and they told me i needed a flex a lite black magic extreme 180 electric fan kit to replace my factory belt driven fan..i was wondering if any v-6 owners have installed an electric fan unit and go rid of the belt driven fan and and how did they like it..thanks

I have the bm150 and it replaces the entire fan and viscous clutch freeing up probably a couple HP. cools great but has a hard time keeping up in the hot summer idling at the stop lights. I recommend you use the lower temp t-stat with an electric fan. I have the A/C lead tapped into the A/C relay in the relay box. Functions real slick. Comes on whenever the compressor runs. I have a defeat switch also that keeps it from coming on when the truck comes up to temp. A/c compressor will make it come on when switched to defeat, however, to be sure there is cooling when the A/C is on. I run a flex-fan in the summer and change coolant yearly. The belt will stay in business because it drives your water pump. Should add life to the belt and water pump.

the electric fan works great and opens up the engine compartment so that it is much easier to work on.

I also run the Black Magic 150 electric fan on my 97 DAK. I did not like the top and bottom brackets, so I went to Home Depot and picked up 6 ft piece of aluminum L bracket and built brackets that bolt the fan to the radiator from the sides of the radiator. I used the fan shroud holes on the side of the radiator. Worked great.
