Subject: weird transmission problem IP: Logged
Message: hi I have the 3.9l 1997 extended bed dakota and love this truck, except wish to have more power, so right now I have 130k miles and a weird problem with the automatic transmission. Whenever I go up to tahoe I have no power in the hills ( arround 5000fts) this means its really hard to get up to 60mph. Problem is the transmission shifts like they wont not always arround 1800, even If I make a kickdown, nothing happens.
But I can go at 80 and higher moh without any problems in the flat lands. so I think about chhip tunning, does this help to fix my shiffting problem?
thx for your help.

Message: Install a TCI TransScat shift kit in that 42RE
get a new sonnax TV valve plunger and sleave kit
use the org spring with 2 shim washers
220500 shift kit $100
new TV kit $30
The plunger and sleave wear and cause the probs
you are describing
Set your TPS voltage on the obd2 to .8 volts
This will give you the agresiveness on hills you
are looking for and your trans will also last
longer and shif better
Your shift points with this done on the lower
gears will raise to
1-2 around 15mph
2-3 around 25mph
with very light throttle and will raise higher
under more throttle
1/4 throttle would be like
1-2 20mph
2-3 35mph
a lot more power climbing hills and better excelleration and the down shifting will be very
agresive a 1/4 inch movement of the throttle will
drop down a gear instantly
This is a very nice shift kit will work in all
mopar lockup's 89 to 98
