Subject: Belly Pan Help? IP: Logged
Message: hi guys
I've read a few posts about the belly pan gaskets and i know for sure mine is bad...i can see the oil in the bottom of the intake. Now, i was wondering if anybody found a way that worked that NEVER came loose again. I dont want to have to take the intake off again. Also how long and hard was it when you guys did it, im trying to estimate my time. thanks for your help guys

Message: It depends how much ur willing to risk and pay!
I tryed getting mine welded. Aluminum warps to bad to safely try.
I tryed getting it o-ringed. That might have worked (max o-ring width i could safely make fit was 3/32") but i wasnt willing to pay $100 an hour for 2 hours to get it cnc machined to fit in a custom fit o-ring.
I ended up in the end finding that my stamped steel belly pan had warped a 1/16".
I then went the aluminum belly pan route. If that fails im gonna use 518 loctite gasket eliminator that was recommended to me by the machinist.
Good luck! If u find a different way please post about it.

Message: Get one of the belly pan plates from Hughs and seal it with "The Right Stuff" spray on gasket. You should be good to go for a longggg time. Good luck.

Message: well i tested the gasket yesterday evening and im starting to think its not bad. i pulled both the hoses out of the valve cover and sealed them with my hands while the truck was idled...if the gaskget was bad it should create a vacuum and if it is good it should create pressure. i got some pressure. so i dont think im gonna do it just yet...but here is my question...how normal is it to have some oily residue in the bottom of your intake...the entire inside of my intake is filled with carbon and oil deposits..even the throttle blades? just from the pcv and egr?

sorry to burst your bubble but i did some research on that loctite 518. the max temp range you can go is up to 150 degrees. by nature of your engine you are running around 180 degrees all the time in which that seal would fail. but with a sheer strength of 8.5 N/mm^2 that would have been a good fix. thanks for the input though.
