Message: I've never used one so this is just what I'm thinking... I think it's gonna have the ability to flow more air than your intake can take it thus making it no more effective than a normal cold air intake. It'll prolly look cool though.

That tells you exactly what you need and how to do it...
Total cost is around $25 unless you buy a K&N filter which is another $35 or so...I'm sure you could get by using the paper filter if you didn't have the money...I know I used it for a couple weeks while saving for the K&N filter.
You'll need to make an S-bolt which will cost you like $2-4 and a little bit of time. Just an FYI, the picture they have is not drawn to scale...so I suggest drawing one to scale and then use it to match your finished S-bolt up to. Makes things a lil easier.
Then go to Autozone or wherever you can find the Edelbrock 10" chrome air cleaner. Every Autozone I've been to has had it. It's around $20 and comes with everything you need including a paper filter.
The site says you have to modify your breather tube but I never had to...I just repositioned it a lil and it works fine (I don't like hacking my stock stuff apart...lol). If you need any other suggestions, feel free to ask...but I think the site above should cover everything.

Message: Another option is the Edelbrook or Holley triangle mess air cleaner. They have a washable foam filter and flow up to 1000cfm

Message: Or if you want even cheaper pop the snorkel of the front of your stock air box, leaves nice air hole, with K&N filter, give a couple days for the computer to adjust and you'll see... need high flow exhaust flowmaster or such prior... You can only squeeze so much out of a V6... am happy with results...

Message: I picked up the edelbrock 10" round air cleaner (#1208) from advance for under $25.00. This one has the connector for the breather. You can cut the hose for a better fit but is not required. I may pick up a spare hose and cut it to fit so the air flows better to the breather. I Have the K&N ordered and should arrive today - Neither advance nor autozone carried the one to fit the air cleaner. I'm going to keep the edelbrock one and use it when i'm letting the K&N dry after washing it. It does sound better and gives better throttle response. I have a '95 and the stock air intake was cold air from a small opening in the grill and should allow at least a little cold air into the engine compartment. I am considering making my own pipe to push cold air directly at the filter. And with a set up like this, it allows for a hood scoup should you so desire.

Message: I have a '99 3.9L (auto-trans) Club-Cab 4x2, I'd like to do the same (ie: Edelbrock 10") was there any problems with the computer after the mods? do I NEED to go with larger or dual exhaust? I've aleady re-programmed the computer with a "SuperChips Micro-Programmer" (I like the results!) Will I need to revert back to 'Stock' and let the computer readjust? any help will be appreciated. Thanx

Message: I have the edelbrock 10" (#1208) and put in a K&N filter (#1065 ) in it. The K&N 10" filter from the link in the post GB200 had above is not correct and it WILL NOT fit in the edelbrock air cleaner. I have a stock muffler, this will be the next upgrade. I've not had any issues yet (had it in since saturday). The throttle response is better and i've noticed that i run 100-400 RPM lower depending on speed. Oh yeah, I had to change the bolt that holds the air cleaner, the stock one was too small (new bolt cost around 30-35 cents at lowes).

Message: What wouldn't fit with the filter? I'm currently using the 1070 mentioned on the site and had no problems with it fitting. I also have the Edelbrock 10" air cleaner (p/n 1208). Oh...you got a 95 Dak...height clearance maybe?

Message: Quick question GB2000 or anyone. The S Bolt link above a couple of posts, is there a special type of rode to use? Do you have to thread the s bolt? And if you do how do you do that? Sorry for all the questions but I am new to this.

Message: On the FABM website, it says:
* E-1070 - 10 x 2.00 (recommended by RPM for 3.9L use)
I found the above to be wrong when using the Edelbrock #1208. The E-1070 has a 10" outside diameter and would not fit INSIDE the Edelbrock 10" air cleaner - it was a little too big. I picked up the K&N E-1065 which has a height of 2.813" and outside diamater of 9.625". The E-1065 is taller (.813") and has a smaller diameter (.375")and fits nicely into the Edelbrock #1208. The set up I have actually allows for more air flow.
And, I don't know about that s-bolt - not sure why they mention that. Since I got a filter that was taller than stock, I needed a new bolt. However, my 95 had a straight bolt and i just picked one up from lowes (< $0.35). I think my stocker was 3" and I think the one that I used was 4". I actually picked up the next 3 sizes longer and chose the one that fit and that I didn't have to cut. And no, I have no clearance issues.
GB2000, I'm not sure how you got that 1070 to fit inside the edelbrock.

Message: It was really tight, but it did fit into mine...now I see why it was so tight though and if I woulda known that before, I'd definitey have gone with the E-1065.
On my 98, the bolt has an offset (not sure if that's the right choice of word)...there's a small bolt threaded into the tb attached to a little plate and then the straight bolt comes off of it about 1/2-3/4" over from where it's threaded into the tb (hence the need for the S-shaped bolt). Brandon, if you need to make an S-bolt for yours, all you need is standard 1/4" threaded rod from home depot. You don't have to thread the hole or anything...you'll just screw the S-bolt into the hole where the old bolt was...but don't overtighten it cuz I've heard stories where people cracked the hole out from doing so.

Message: Thanks for the clarification, this does make sense. I guess the big thing here is the differences between generations.
there's no reason to force the filter in, i went with the smaller diamater, it fits fine. And since the top screws down to the bottom, no gaps for crap to get though and into the TB. And the total surface area is more in the filter I got and that's not a bad thing :D

Message: Could I just replace the breather hose with any after market filter breather? How would you attach the aftermarket breather to the valve cover. i have heard that Spectre Performance has a breather that you just push in. Sorry that is sort of off topic.
