Message: I just decided to start a new post, b/c I've taken everyone's ideas from my last one...My truck still misses when it warms up. It's a 97 3.9 4x4 auto cc. Here's what I've replaced- plugs/wires/rotor/cap/hall effect pickup, coil, 195* t-stat, crankshaft position sensor (cps), throttle position sensor (tps). I've checked and cleaned the throttle body, PCV, and just cleaned the IAC today (made the problem much much worse!) The alternator is fine (according to the dealer.) There are no vac. leaks, checked it 35 times. Seems to be no electrical shortages or messed up wires. Dealer says valves are fine. Tested my fuel tank for water and it's all dry gas. The fuel pump and filter are fine. There's no EGR valve, trust me. When I get the truck warmed up, it just seems to get too much gas, it's almost always @ 50mph. No check eng. light coming on (the bulb works). It idles fine, but at 600rpm (normal?) and there's a ticking sound while in gear coming from the psngr. side of the motor, I swear it sounds like the alternator, put it in park or neut. and it stops... It hasn't stalled out completely yet, it stays running, but rough and I can't accelerate or give it any gas. Prob keeps getting worse, any ideas?

Message: the 600 rpm is fine. Are you able to drive faster than 50 mph? I've seen similar issues with a bad cat. But in those cases you can drive up to a certain speed and can't go faster.

Message: some days i have no problem, and I can definitely get over 50, but if it's acting up, nope, 50 is the limit. The cat was replaced a little over a year ago, and if I tap on it, it doesn't have that loose, broken up sound it did before I replaced it. And shouldn't an 02 sensor throw a check engine light or give off a code? I've heard MAP sensors might not throw a code.

Message: i was just thinking it could be the map sensor. i don't know if there is a way to test it. first check that little rubber elbow where it connects to the tb.

Message: If cleaning the iac made it worse I would suspect the iac is bad.

Message: FIXED!! so far! I've gone almost 80 miles without a glitch today! It turns out, I had two problems which made it impossible to pinpoint. Let me explain...I cleaned the IAC yesterday and made my problem so much worse, and as I and others expected, it must've been a bad IAC. I replaced it to find the problem was still there. After sputtering along at a "maxed out" 10mph, I was almost home and the motor caught up and ran perfect. As soon as it started running perfect, the check engine light came on for the first time. Yes i was excited. Autozone's comp said it was the O2 sensor. Got home, soaked the damn old one with penetrating oil and finally got it replaced and it has ran fine ever since. So I wonder, were the readings from the O2 sensor not messing up the comp. or showing a code because the IAC was also bad? I know that sounds confusing, but I think the almost busted O2 was picking up the slack of the busted IAC, and in turn, once the IAC was replaced, the computer realized the O2 wasn't doing its job. Either way, keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks to everyone for your input.

Replace O2 sensors every 60,000. Glad you got your truck fixed.
92 and 97 Daks both with many mods.

Message: i know that those O2 sensors can really screw you up, i replaced mine twice in two years both times they threw a lean condition to the computer making it dump in huge amounts of fuel. through the course of all this i have changed every sensor on the motor with the exception of the oil pressure sending unit and crank sensor. i plan to change and modify the crank sensor when the temp outside gets above 20. (houghton michigan)
